VIPERIA, or Vipera as the band was named in 2002, was founded by Alexander Hilonen and Andrej Börjesson as a school project in their early teens. The band wrote their first song "Steep Hill" which got some attention from the local scene in the small community, Bro, outside of Stockholm, where the both grew up. The response of the song got the band an offer to be on a compilation with other local acts from Bro. They wrote a song called "Fucked up mind" (now known as F.U.M) to be their contribution for the compilation.

After some time of members jumping on and off Vipera they finally got a solid crew and in 2004 they recorded their first demo named "[Demo]lition".

A couple of months later Andrej quit the band leaving Vipera and later on even the bass player which later on got replaced by Daniel Serverinsson in November 2004 and then Joakim Forsblom in May 2005 to jump in on lead guitar. After playing some months without any gigs, Vipera kicked their drummer and replaced him in November 2005 with Georgios Grigoriadis and in the same time changed their name to VIPERIA due to several bands abroad also named Vipera. After this it kicked off to play at more prestigious metal scenes like Pub Anchor, Slakthuset etc. instead of local scenes in Bro.

In 2006 Viperia entered the studio to record their second demo "The Fimbul Winters". After the release of the demo Viperia gigged in Stockholm and then Joakim got kicked and almost instantly replaced by Jonas Gustavsson.

In 2007 Viperia participated on Emergenza Music Festival, one of the worlds largest music competitions, and got all the way to the Nordic Finals both in 2008 and 2009, which they also released a Live-DVD of the finals.

In the fall of 2008 millions of listeners could listen to Viperia on the Metal show on AFB radio, which played several songs for many weeks.

In the beginning of 2009 Viperia recorded their first full-length album “The Dying Embers” and was released in December same year. Under which Daniel Severinsson left the band and sonner also Georgios Grigoriadis .

Although the large challenge to keep the band alive, the album got great reviews from Sweden’s largest Metal-magazines Sweden Rock Magazine and Close-Up Magazine. The Tartarean Desire wrote: “Basically, it’s everything I love about ‘90s Anathema, Soundgarden and Taneli Jarva-era Sentenced: the truism that metal can provide both accessibility and heaviosity without emphasizing one to the detriment of the other […]the eerie, bizarrely Egyptian riffs and classy, shimmering guitar leads all over this thing just bespeak a group that aspires to greatness.”

Even the German metal magazine, 'Legacy' got hold of the album and gave 'The Dying Embers' 10 out of 15 stars, saying " …one can only hope that a label recognises the potential of this band."

In the beginning of 2010 Viperia recruited Fredrik Heckscher on drums and in 2011 also Kim Liljedahl was recruited on bas.

After great reviews and more exposure to the world via a successful web site along with contacts made touring, Viperia were given a 30 minute show meaning many weeks of of tracks played over the Australian web pod cast, 'Live! Wire Pod-cast Radio, with over twelve million listeners and one of the top ten podcasts in the world. A request soon came through from American recording promoters, 'Street Cult Marketing' wanting Viperia to be included on the 15th volume of a compilation release which included 'Fear Factory,' 'Scum Of The Earth and many more.
